Thrice

I bought surprise tickets to the band Thrice for Ryan's birthday gift, so last week we drove down to Santa Cruz to rock out together. It was such a blast! It was Thrice's Farewell tour, so the crowd was pretty enthused to be there.
The mosh pit culture always amuses me. All this physical pushing, but all the camaraderie at the same time. You push someone down and then you help them up. The teacher in me kept wanting to tell people to keep their hands to themselves.. haha.

The beauty of thrice is that even though they are pretty mainstream, the lead singer is actually a worship leader down in SoCal. His lyrics are beautiful and are infused with hope and redemption. It was so fun seeing all these hardcore fans singing along words of God's truth and love...

Here's one of Ry's favorite songs called "The Exile":

I am an exile - a sojourner; A citizen of some other place.
All I’ve seen is just a glimmer in a shadowy mirror,
But I know one day I’ll see face to face.

I am a nomad - a wanderer; I have nowhere to lay my head down.
There’s no point in putting roots too deep when I’m moving on.
I’m not settling for this unsettling town.

My heart is filled with songs of forever -
Of a city that endures, where all is made new.
I know I don’t belong here; I’ll never
Call this place my home, I’m just passing through.

I am a pilgrim - a voyager; I won’t rest until my lips touch the shore -
Of the land that I’ve been longing for as long as I’ve lived,
Where there’ll be no pain or tears anymore.

My heart is filled with songs of forever -
Of a city that endures, where all is made new.
I know I don’t belong here; I’ll never
Call this place my home, I’m just passing through.

Well, can't wait to share pictures of Bethany, Mari and Kirsten's visit up to Chico. We had so much fun! We love showing off Chico. Right now Ry's Grandpa is here and Ky's here, too.
It's the place to be :)

Loooove,

Another busy weekend~ I love it! Still adjusting to the summer schedule and trying to make sure to set up some summer goals for myself in the little gaps of free time between work and play.

This weekend, my Gramps (gung gung) stopped by during a quick norcal trip he was taking. It's always fun to have family stop by so we can give them a glimpse of our Chico life. We took him to the bustling farmer's market and our favorite thai joint ~Sophias~ to catch up on life.

Alyssa also came back into town- which is always a joy for us chicoans. One her fun projects was to clear out her storage unit while she was here. It was like going through the details of a scrapbook with pieces of sentimental this and that. we even were trying on winter clothes in the 100 degree weather~ bonding at it finest.

The next day our main event was biking to the Chico Bicycle Music Festival held in Bidwell Park. Everyone meets downtown with their bikes and does a huge biking caravan to the park where food, games, and music is set up. They even use stationary bikes to power the sound equipment~ you can see Alyssa contributing below.

Here's a clip from one of the bands--Mamuse-- just to give you a taste of the atmosphere. Beautiful vocals:

Hope you're having a great summer.
Catch me up on what you're doing! Do you have any summer goals?

Some powerful vocals for you. Love this song. When Ry and I were watching the Sing off- Pentatonix performed her song, thought I'd share both.

What a full Easter weekend! He has Risen Friends! Yes indeed!

We started our Friday bright and early caring for our lovely community. We got to pass out free coffee, tea and hot chocolate to people driving out of our complex onto their way to work. It was pretty chilly- 38 is what someone told us-- my fingers were pretty frozen, but it's so fun to bless people.. can't complain.

We also got to take a meal to our friends Tara and Dave who just had a beautiful baby. Isn't she gorgeous? She was making all sorts of funny faces.

We had a study break from all our errands.
:)

Saturday I got a surprise package from my sister-in-law with a sweet doughnut pan and egg towel in it!! I love surprises, especially in the form of doughnuts!
So guess what we had for Easter breakfast?

A simple skirt hemming project:
Found this boxy, over-sized skirt on sale for a few bucks, decided to make it a pencil skirt.

So it looks like I'm destroying this guitar. This is actually Alyssa's mom's guitar that's been hanging with us for a few years now. It's been broken the whole while, and I've been needing a clamp to fix it, but today I decided, who needs a clamp when you have a foot. So I "fixed" it. We'll see if it stays.

Our last activity of the day was a Easter dinner with a huge IV crew of maybe 50. It was packed with people and delicious food. The fitzs brought fondue and fruit. Nummers.

He has risen!

May you walk through this week living in the joy that He is alive, in us.
